What is Self-Determination?
Educators, parents, policy-makers and advocates need to come to common beliefs and understanding about what self-determination is and why it is a worthwhile focus.
To be self-determined means an individual is the primary agent in making choices and decisions regarding their life. They are free from outside pressures, influences or limitations. It requires a life span to develop and exercise with the support of advocates who value and believe their voice matters.
